With 4 Westminster seats:

Does my vote really matter?
The local returning officer has written to say “Your vote matters. Make sure you’re in.”
What does that actually mean? Does it mean that every vote will influence the result? Probably not. It all depends on the voting system being used.
If you are voting in a referendum – YES
This is because all the votes are counted and therefore it will influence the outcome.
If you are electing the UK Government – NO.
This is because with the First Past the Post system, only the votes of the person with the most votes wins the constituency seat. Votes for the other candidates have no influence in who is elected, and if the winning candidates gets less than 50% of the votes, more people have voted against them than for them. In 2015, half of the MPs elected did not get 50% of the votes!
Is there are fairer system? YES – PPPR – Party Percentage Proportional Representation.
All our MPs, with the odd exception, belong to a political party. So, if a party gets 50% of the votes, it should get 50% of the seats, and pro-rata. Can you trust anybody who objects to this?
PPPR requires multi-seat constituencies – EPCs – Electing Proportional Constituencies – each with 4 seats. Then the voters could have four same party candidates (2 males, 2 female?) giving the 250,000+ voters a wider choice, with one vote on one voting paper. The A4 size voting paper, and the use of electronic counting machines, would bring many benefits, and then…
the voters will get…what the voters voted for!
In order to award seats to the proper Party and Person, PPPR tables are required to list:
- The number of votes each candidate received in each constituency and the total % figure.
- The number of votes gained by each party and the % figure.
- Name of constituencies awarded to the parties and persons with the highest % of votes.
PPPR = the most Popular Parties and Persons Returned.
2017 Example of PPPR
2017 Election with – Party Percentage Proportional Representation – 25% votes = 25% seats. EPC 59/1.
This Electing Proportional Constituencies result table uses the 4 most westerly UK Westminster seats. It means every party can have 4 candidates (2 Male 2 Female?). The voters single vote is for any candidate, unlike now with FPTP, which is – Voting for my party? You can only vote for ME. Using FPTP results, this table is only a guide.
This EPC table will show – each party’s vote %, how many votes for a seat, the number and % of winning and ‘wasted’ votes.
Note. With FPTP results, the % figure has preference over the number of votes due to differing electorates. With PPPR they will be equal.
! Cambourne & Redruth has 2 winners
* Truro & Falmouth no winner, so Labour with fewer % votes gets the seat
These results show with FPTP, one party got all the seats with less than half the votes. PPPR has changed that!
With PPPR, voters can choose any candidates in the EPC and then the most Popular Parties & Persons Returned.
Will my vote be wasted?
It has been estimated that in the 2017 election, 22 million votes were ‘wasted‘!
Question – Why were so many votes wasted?
Answer – With First Past The Post (FPTP) voting, a candidate needs just one more vote than any of the other candidates to win. If this is less than 50% of the votes, then there are more ‘wasted’ votes than winning votes! (In 2015, over 1⁄2 of the MP’s elected did not get 50% of the votes). Did you have a ‘wasted’ vote in the 2015 election?
Q – Is there a voting system that will not waste so many votes?
A – Yes, Party Percentage Proportional Representation – 25% votes = 25% seats.
PPPR uses ’One vote on One voting paper’ in multi – seat constituencies, as
shown below in the EPC 59/1 West Cornwall 2017 FPTP/ PPPR results .
Did you have a ‘wasted’ vote in the 2017 election?
Q – Why should we have Proportional Representation?
A – To truly reflect the ‘Notion of the Nation’ and ‘What the voters voted for’.
Q – If we had had PR in 2015, would we have Brexit?
A – Most unlikely. Conservatives 11,334,576 votes = 331 MPs. 34,243 votes for a seat. UKIP 3, 881,099 votes = 1 MP. UKIP 2nd in 120 constituencies, and all those votes were ’wasted’. They were not ‘wasted’ in the EU referendum!
Q. How many votes were ’wasted’ in the 2016 EU referendum?
A. For 17,410, 742 = 51.89%. Not for 16,141 241 = 48.11%. Invalid ’wasted’ 25,359 = 0.08%
Now, with more info, would voters change their mind in another referendum?
Did David Cameron know the true ‘Notion of the Nation‘ with FPTP? PR would have changed it! We have PR in N. Ireland, the Scottish Parliament, and Welsh Assembly. We need it NOW at Westminster. Then the voters will get what the voters voted for!
Fair Voting’s
All the seats with less
than 1/2 the votes?
Yes – with First Past The Post voting!
We need PPPR
Party Percentage Proportional Representation
Then any party with say 30% of the votes
can expect 30% of the seats
with one vote on one voting paper
Do you want proportional representation?
Yes – So that voters get what they voted for
No – So that some parties get a lot of unfair ‘cheap’ seats’
